Yin Yoga targets the connective tissues, such as the ligaments, bones, and even the joints of the body that normally are not exercised very much in a more active style of asana practice. Yin is a perfect complement to the dynamic and muscular (yang) styles of yoga that emphasize internal heat, and the lengthening and contracting of our muscles. Yin Yoga generally targets the connective tissues of the hips, pelvis, and lower spine. Yin and yang tissues respond quite differently to being exercised. We follow the Yin period with Yang-style yoga; moving, flowing, enjoying the new spaciousness in the hips and lower back, areas most addressed by Yin Yoga.
2 hour session with Caroline Downey €25

Yin energy is female, soft, cooling and calming. Its qualities resemble the Moon (Chandra represents the Ida Nadi, which is connected to the left nostril and is responsible for cooling the entire system).
Yang energy is male, dynamic, fiery and heating. Its qualities resemble the Sun (Surya represents the Pingala Nadi, which is connected to the right nostril and gives rise to heat in the body).
In this series of workshops we will explore the dynamic practices associated with building heat in the body to stimulate detoxification and cleansing of the blood and internal organs. Themes to include: Backbends, Arm Balances and Inversions.
In conjunction we will blend the more restorative practices that soothe the nervous system and calm the mind. Themes to include: Forward Bends, Hip Openers and Supported Savasana.
Movement is a manifestation of Yang activity, and Stillness reflects the calm, cooling quietude of Yin. Finding the balance of Yin and Yang energies in yoga practice reflects a strong body with a quiet mind.
Each workshop will follow a gradual step by step approach (Vinyasa) to build a solid foundation and understanding of how to blend the Yin and Yang energies in your practice. It is recommended to attend each workshop concurrently however they may be attended seperately also. Some yoga experience is required. These workshops are not for total beginners.

The Energetics of Asana Practice. Saturday 10:00-12:30
In this workshop we will be playfully exploring how to experience and create more freedom and vibrancy in our yoga practice by awakening and freeing the peripheral outer body to activate the subtle inner energy body. We will explore a range of ideas including yielding to gravity, Hasta and Pada bandha, finding energetic continuity throughout the body by effectively stabilizing and playing with the ‘voltage’ through our lines of energy as we play with our ‘edge’. Being moved by breath and embodying effortless effort, we will discover how to practice harmoniously mindfully and skilfully for a practice that is enlivening and liberating.
Ease the stresses of urban life and promote healing & transformation
An afternoon ‘lunar’ practice that is calming, soothing and rejuvenating to help to balance the tendency for our busy urban lives to leave us feeling fatigued stressed anxious or low on energy.
Most of us would benefit from (at least occasionally) taking the time to slow down and work with gentle and restorative postures where the body is supported effortlessly in a comfortable and easily accessible posture using props like blankets and bolsters. This enables deep physical and mental releasing and relaxation – meaning we don’t have to use energy to gain energy! It activates the parasympathetic nervous system, helping our body’s own internal healing processes to work which restores balance to the nervous system, improves digestion, assimilation and immune function plus quietens the over-active and taxed adrenal glands which pump the toxic stress hormones.
Ignoring our basic human need to rest properly will affect our health and well being and in the long run can lead to sickness and dis-ease. This session will give attendees the tools to, in their everyday lives, de-stress recharge and rejuvenate in as little as 5-10 minutes. We will finish with a deeply healing guided relaxation (yoga nidra).
Open to all levels except complete beginners.
This workshop will focus on the in-depth learning of the traditional Ashtanga Yoga system (not suitable for complete beginners). Led Primary class with hands on adjustments and guidance. Sharath Jois and she continues to travel there annually to further her studies. This workshop will provide students with concrete information and tools to flow through their practice moving from one posture to another working with the correct vinyasa (co-ordinated breath with movement) count. Students will be taught how to move more fluidly through the practice focusing on the bandhas and breath that form the essence of the practice.
