Hatha Yoga is a multi-layered experience--starting with the more dynanic forms of yoga asanas and moving towards more subtle forms of breath and energy work. Utilising both the external technique of asana and the internal techniques of pranayama and meditation allows us to go deeper: moving beyond muscular movement to experience the deeper subtle energies of our bodies. These workshops will focus on strong but slow asana work, and a introduction to meditation and breathwork.

Somatic movement for yoga practitioners This is a unique opportunity to explore the "experience within" through Somatic Movement Education. Some of you will have tasted the effects if you have been to my classes recently...if not below is a description of SME.
Somatic Movement Education (SME – In the Tradition of Thomas Hanna), also known as Hanna Somatics, is a system of neuromuscular education (mind-body training) which helps you to enjoy freedom from pain and more comfortable movement for the rest of your life.
SME teaches you to recognize, release, and reverse chronic pain patterns resulting from injury, stress, repetitive motion strain, or habituated postures.
SME particularly helps relieve pain and disability associated with common health complaints such as: headaches; stiff or painful joints and muscles; fatigue; poor posture; breathing problems; impaired movement; accident trauma and whiplash effects; back pain; repetitive use/stress injuries; etc.
Even if you don't have any issues in your body SME will enhance your overall awareness of the mind/body connection. It is excellent for releasing residual tension before and after Yoga practice and it helps refine your ability to be present in each posture while deepening the experience of it.
This is cutting edge science presented in practical form so you can take it home and own it yourself!
This worshop will combine Somatic awareness of all the functional movements of the body followed by a Restorative Asana practice. Restorative yoga is where props are use to support the body in the posture allowing the practitioner to completely surrender all tension. It's benefits include a quiet, calm mind and a relaxed emotional state.

Gentle Alternative Vinyasa Sequence (I)
Chandra Krama: The Moon Sequence
Beginning with a short introduction about the workshop and Vinyasa Yoga this class will commence with Moon Sequence. Feeling tired? Depleted? Injured? Or otherwise a bit low? This sequence is a gentle flowing Vinyasa form accessible for all levels. Although this sequence was originally intended for practice on the full moon, the new moon and during the menstrual cycle, it is appropriate at any time for women or men. This sequence emphasises the hips, groin, lower spine and abdominals, which will feel awake and alive after moving through the postures. It takes pressure off the neck, shoulders and wrists (common from the standard jumps in the Ashtanga series) and is useful as a regular alternative to the intense heat of the traditional Ashtanga. Whether old or young this sequence is great for any age. Some Yoga experience is recommended.

Blending the Yin/Yang of Yoga styles
Saturday, 9 August, 11am-1pm, eu22
This workshop will focus on complimenting the Yin (soft meditative) style with the Yang (hard/dynamic) style of Yoga creating a balance of harmony and integrity.
The Yin approach activates the Meridian (energy) system deep within the connective tissue through practice of floor postures (mainly hip openers and forward bends) held for extended periods.
The Yang approach stimulates strength and structural integrity within the practice of powerful, demanding standing and balance poses linked together with Ujjayi breath.
Each approach compliments the other by stimulating the entire mind/body experience. Finding the balance between the Yin and the Yang in our yoga practice helps us lead more balanced lives off the mat.
